Special Educational Needs (SEN) & Wellbeing
Pastoral care is at the heart of our school. Our aim is to ensure that each student joining VCP is well cared for and is monitored and supported throughout their time with us.
If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of your son, we want to hear about them. Your first point of contact is his class teacher, who may then speak to our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), who works with our team of specially trained wellbeing and learning support staff.
When necessary, the school may also seek further support from expert professionals on the Island or refer matters to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) which oversees safeguarding for Jersey's children and young people. For more information, read our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy here.
At VCP, we recognise the vital role we have in developing each boy's social and emotional awareness alongside his academic education. We know that happy, confident children who trust those around them and feel safe in their environment are best primed for learning.
We also focus on educating each child about the personal and social challenges they might encounter. Through our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum, we equip our boys with the knowledge and skills they need to be resilient, make sensible life decisions and form healthy and respectful relationships.
Beyond the classroom, through our extracurricular activities, we offer boys even more opportunities to explore their individual interests and talents, build their self-esteem, develop a sense of camaraderie and teamwork and, importantly, make friends and build their network of support within our school.
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator is Miss Caroline Finch. Please email c.finch@vcp.sch.je if you have any wellbeing or SEN concerns.
