Students celebrate A level success

Victoria College students who took A levels this summer have nearly all secured a place at their preferred universities or the jobs they wanted to launch their careers.

Headmaster Alun Watkins said: ‘The results being collected today mean that our boys can move on to degree courses of their choice in a range of universities across the UK or start work in Jersey in a range of excellent and exciting roles. Whatever path they choose, it is an extremely exciting juncture in their lives and we wish them the very best of luck.’

A total of 76 students took 243 examinations and nearly 80% of the grades achieved were at A* to C.

Mr Watkins added: ‘We are delighted for our students but, of course, we recognise that they could not have achieved these results without the support of their parents and the expertise of their teachers. It’s a team effort to get them to this point and it starts when they join us in Year 7. Well done to all involved and our thanks for your hard work and encouragement.’

Senior staff and the careers and sixth form team have been in school since early today (Thursday) to support and advise boys as they make important decisions about their future.

Mr Watkins added: ‘This group of Year 13 students have been great ambassadors for Victoria College and Jersey. A number of them have represented their Island at sporting events, led teams of younger boys in House activities or taken part in high-profile CCF events. They have had a rich and varied Sixth Form life that included far more than just their academic studies. This is exactly the kind of rounded experience we aim to provide for them so that they can begin the next phase of their lives well-equipped with the skills and outlook that will bring them every success.’
