All Years, Dinner Table Discussions
To enable parents to have a better idea of what our KS3 students are studying in their PSHE lessons and to spread these conversations out of the classroom and into the home, we would be delighted if you could adopt our dinner table discussions into your weekly schedule.
Each week there will be questions that you can ask your child, that will link into their learning from PSHE that week and hopefully prompt interesting conversations.
This week's questions:
Y7 - What did you do in joint PSHE this week? What teamwork skills did you show?
Y8 - Why does the UK give money to other countries as aid? Does aid always benefit the recipients? Can you think of any other solutions?
Y9 - Why might someone find it hard to seek help if they think they have an STI or want a check up? How could people overcome their concerns?

Year 9, GCSE Options Evening
We are delighted to be able to invite you and your son to our Y9 GCSE Options and Information Evening on Tuesday 28 November from 5.00-6.00pm. This is a really exciting time in any young person’s school career as they start to make decisions about their academic futures, and it is the first step on the GCSE journey.
You will hear from several senior members of staff about how we best support our students throughout Years 10 & 11, guidance on how to go about selecting GCSE courses, as well as what the next few years have in store at Victoria College.
As a result of the scheduled industrial action, this will be a somewhat adapted event, with the presentation taking place in the Great Hall. We ask that parents and students be seated in the Great Hall for a 5.15pm start, with doors open from 5pm. Following that, there will be an opportunity for parents and students to talk with current Y11 students about GCSE courses and their experience of the GCSE journey.
As well as making use of your son’s written report on Friday 19 January 2024 to firm up your son’s final decisions, there will also be a Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 21 February 2024; please do feel free to contact your son’s teachers or the appropriate Head of Department for a more in-depth discussion about our different courses if you feel you need to. The deadline for option choices is Friday 1 March 2024, and we have placed Subject videos on the website here for you to peruse prior to the event so you can come prepared with any questions that you may have.
The GCSE years are an extremely exciting and formative stage in any boy’s education, and we very much look forward to working in partnership with you to give your son the best platform for future success.

Years 12 & 13, 'Movember'
In recent years, a number of Victoria College and Victoria College Preparatory School staff have taken part in ‘Movember’, an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. We are once again taking part this year, growing moustaches of varying sizes, shapes and quality, and we are also inviting our Sixth Form students to take part. We are hopeful that our continued efforts to support this event will encourage young people to be open to discussing and tackling such problems.
If Sixth Form students would still like to take part in this wonderful initiative, they should let Mr Falle know that they would like to sign up. It's never too late. We are also asking that all participants contribute a minimum of £10 to our fundraising efforts, the same amount that staff have paid. This can either be paid in cash or using our online donation page. We are arranging photos during 'Movember' so that we can track the progress being made by those taking part. Those not participating should continue to adhere to the usual Sixth Form policy for facial hair.
Money raised will be donated to Movember UK. You can find out more about the work that they do to support Men’s Health here. Should you wish to support the Victoria College students and staff with their fundraising by donating, then you can do so here.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact Head of Sixth Form, Mr Falle, via e-mail (a.falle@vcj.sch.je) should you wish to discuss this further.
