We are delighted to communicate to the wider community that our student in Year 9 - Danny - who was involved in an accident earlier this month and received urgent hospital treatment in the UK as a result, has made an excellent recovery and will be coming back to school next week. The engagement of school staff, parents and early years practitioners in workshops to inform the development of a vision and charter for inclusive education and early years is ongoing. This piece of work will be key to the future of education and CYPES would like to gain input from people from all backgrounds and experiences.

Here you will find a poster about the event and how to book your place. The session on Saturday 24 June will be hosted by the minister who is keen to hear your views. Booking instructions are included on the attached poster.

From Monday 19 June, due to the hot weather no blazers or ties will be needed in College and shirt sleeves may be rolled up. This will be reviewed on Friday 23 June ahead of the week ahead.

We are delighted to be able to share where our students' beautiful creations will be on display during the sculpture trail which launches today, Friday 16 June. Our school tortoises will be looked after by:

Tortoise Takeover is an island-wide, public art trail that is bringing together every part of Jersey's community and, in turn, protecting some of the most threatened species on the planet.

If you haven't yet received a copy of the Victorian this year, these will be distributed next week for your son to bring home. An electronic copy can be found here.

In response to feedback from students, staff and parents, from September 2023 we will be launching an updated PE and Games kit at Victoria College. The update is to ensure our kit is modern, distinctive, cost-effective and appropriate for the students to use for a range of sports and activities, both indoors and outdoors. It has also been subject to scrutiny from our own focus groups of students, and the results were very positive. The Old Victorians' Association is hosting a fete-style event on Saturday 15 July on College Field to raise funds for the Victoria College Foundation.

There will be several stalls and zones at the event to provide entertainment, including a soft play zone, a catered BBQ, live music, a drinks zone, cornhole, a cricket tournament and other fete favourites for children and families to enjoy.

The whole Victoria College community is invited, you are welcome to bring your friends and family too!

This month Mind Jersey wil be attending this ADHD Parent/Carers and Professionals support meeting – Thursday 29 June 2023, 6:30pm – 8:30pm at Samares School.  They will be talking about the support they can offer to children with ADHD and their families.  Diagnosed or undiagnosed, it does not matter.  They can provide one to one support or group work to meet your child's and your families needs.  They will also be joined by staff from CAMHS who can help with any appointment or waiting list queries you may have and also provide you with some advice and guidance.

The first part of the session will be to watch and listen to the presentation from Mind and the second part for peer support.

The Diarmid House Charity Meal will take place on Wednesday 28 June 6.30-8.30pm at Hotel Ambassadeur, St Clement. It will cost £24 for a 2 course meal, soft drink and charity donation. Please pay and return the permission/order slip to Mrs Kellett directly or drop in the envelope to reception by Tuesday 20 June. Full information provided in the attached letter.

Diarmid House Meal Letter

Motion Studio Jersey are coming to Victoria College in September to run an animation club on Friday lunchtimes. This club is the perfect starting point for budding young animators to develop their skills and become more creative. If you are interested and would like to sign your son up please email Head of Clubs and Activities, James Townsend (j.townsend@vcj.sch.je) to add your child to the list.

The club costs £66 per student for the 6 week course to cover the cost of staffing, art materials and tech.

New Maths Homework System - Sparx Maths

On Thursday 22 June VCP is having their annual fete and Mr Pateman has invited the Year 7s to head down at lunch time to celebrate. The boys should meet Mr Cox outside the Biology 3 classroom (his room) so they can all walk down together.

The boys will be able to play the games and purchase some lunch if they choose, but be aware the queues are often long. If purchasing lunch then £10 should be enough for food and to play some games. Please be mindful not to send your child to College with too much money with them. Teachers and prefects will be on hand to support but please remind your child of a few rules:

• Meet outside Biology 3 without bags (leave these at Tilling)
• Any treats/prizes the students win must be consumed at VCP or put in their bags immediately when they return
• Not allowed to bring very large (2L etc…) fizzy drink bottles back up to College
• Students must return to College grounds by 13.45 in time for their tutor class.
• Any inappropriate behaviour will result in students being removed from the fete

Just 5 weeks to go before Activities Week 2023. A reminder to all parents that final payments should now have been made. Final information letters were emailed out prior to half-term. If you did not receive this, please contact our Victoria College Admin Team.

We have received all payments for this trip and are in possession of full passport and travel details. Monday 17 July "Fire and Ice" on Jersey

As a free/optional additional day for those coming to Iceland the Geography department will be offering a guided walk of the north west of Jersey to see evidence of tectonic and glacial activity. More information will be forwarded home shortly.

Year 11 Transition 2023

Year 11 and 13 students should return their school books in the week commencing Monday 19 June. Mr Wooldridge will be based in the Temple for students to return their books, and students can speak with him in advance to confirm which books they have loaned out. Books not returned by Friday 23 June will be charged for at a rate of £20 per textbook and £10 per Library book.

NOTE: the book return will have a delayed start at 12:00 on Monday in the Temple due to final exams.
