Information for Staff
If you are new to Victoria College feel free to come and find us, the Careers Hub is based in the science block by the Sixth Form centre.
A focus this year will be on linking curriculum learning to careers:
- Linking curriculum learning to careers as well as being a statutory requirement, more importantly alongside building careers knowledge has shown to increase motivation, attendance, revision and attainment, take a look at https://www.educationandemployers.org/research/motivated-to-achieve/. With this in mind please let Head of Careers know of any initiatives you do which links careers to your subject, whether that is through your lesson or a guest. Please speak to the Head of Careers Suzanne Job for any resources that would help support you with this and feedback examples of good practise.
- Research has shown that early careers work has the greatest impact. This year our Personal Guidance Appointments ensure that students have a minimum of 2 careers appointments by the end of KS4 (one in Year 9 and one in Year 11). All Year 12 students will have at least one appointment with either Mrs Job for employment opportunities or Mrs Murphy for advice on university applications in addition to their one hour careers lesson per week for the whole year.
- Action plans will be given to student at the end of the appointments and recorded on Unifrog where tutors will be able to access the information providing the student gives consent for this data to be shared.
